BELLINGHAM: Come get a piece of Bellingham Rock Saturday, July 11: You are invited to a limited opportunity to obtain a piece of Bellingham Rock from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at the Civic Stadium parking lot in Bellingham.

CLOSURES:

July 10: 42-day continuous lane reduction scheduled to begin daily north of Sedro-Woolley, as construction begins to restore fish passage along an unnamed tributary to Hansen Creek.

July 13th – July 14th, 2026: Camano Island Chip Seal – chip sealing with Camano Ridge Road

July 13 – for 4 nights: SR 20 to close to finish roundabout near Oak Harbor. EB and WB SR20 will close at West Fakkema Road north of Oak Harbor. These closures will allow contractors working for the Washington State Department of Transportation to complete construction of a compact roundabout at West Fakkema Road. Tasks include installing permanent pavement markings, signs and crushed rock on the shoulder, replacing traffic sensors and other finishing details.

Beginning July 13, 2026, for approximately 30 calendar days: Lake Samish Road #25610 at milepost 0.88 (just west of Interstate 5) will be closed for WSDOT contractor, Kiewit Construction, to install a bridge for fish passage, or dates thereabout to be determined by the County Engineer. Given Kutz, Transportation Programs, 360-416-1400 is the contact person for this issue.

July 9 for 15 Days, Thursday Night, Alger/Lake Samish Road (exit 240) – NB and SB I-5 ill be reduced to a single lane in each direction. During the lane reduction, southbound traffic will cross over to the northbound mainline. Crews will build a new fish passable structure beneath southbound lanes as part of a Washington State Department of Transportation project removing 17 culverts that block fish migration near Lake Samish.

Until Late August: near Conway in Skagit County, Paving project to improve a 4.5-mile stretch of State Route 534 between Conway and Lake McMurray

Until September: Southbound I-5 traffic shifts onto a bypass road south of Bellingham: The shift of southbound Interstate 5 to the temporary two-lane bypass road south of Bellingham has been rescheduled to Monday night, June 15, to complete necessary work before the shift. The northbound I-5 shift to a temporary bypass road will be rescheduled to a later date Southbound traffic will continue to use the bypass through September

for Several Months: beginning at June 11 6pm the State Route 536 Skagit River Bridge/Division Street Bridge will close to eastbound traffic through the duration of a project to repaint the historic bridge.

OPENING: 

Friday, June 14: SR 20/North Cascades Highway expected to fully reopen
